THE 11th
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF
ISSEI
International Society for the Study of European Ideas
in cooperation with
Section
IV: Art, Theatre, Literature, Music, Culture
Workshop:
Scientific and
Non-Scientific Discourses in Modern “Literaturwissenschaft”
Chair:
Mark Gelber
This
session aims to explore modern and contemporary “Literaturwissenschaft,”
the “scientific” study of literature and literary culture, from the point of
view of its utilization of scientific (and non-scientific) discourses. While
papers should focus on recent developments characteristic of twentieth and
twenty-first century European scholarship, papers which analyze aspects of the
tradition from pre-modern periods (going back to the classical age, Plato,
Aristotle, etc.) are also welcome, insofar as they provide points of departure,
contrast, and background for the discussion of contemporary tendencies. Papers
which focus on issues related to “Literaturwissenschaft”
and psychoanalytic criticism, formalism, structuralism, phenomenological
criticism, post-structuralism, new historicism, feminism and gender criticism,
and post-colonialism are especially welcome.
